BERKO

»You are never far from the Berko`s Star- Venice« presents a pair of tourists looking at a huge mural of a stylized flower on the far side of a Venetian canal. The two travellers lean on a railling, giving the impression that perhaps they are on a vaporetto. Nearby on the left a vaporetto is passing while gondoliers head toward the majestic flower on the wall of an old building facing them. Instantly we find ourselves around Venice on a luminous, sunny September day. The blue sky contrasts strongly with the saffron orange bloom, reminiscent of Georgia O`Keeffe˙s flowers, but in Berko`s pop art, hyper-realistic style. This work is a part of a series of photographic impressions taken in various cities around the world ( specifically Cracow, Sofia, London, Montreal, Tokyo and Venice ), where over the past ten years Berko has exhibited silk-screened proofs depicting floral patterns and Christmas stars. This digital photo reflects the artist˙s concerns about the urban envronment.
